Four score and seven years ago, give or take a few scores, John served a mission in the Italy Milan mission. While serving, John bought a tie at an Italian market. It was one of his favorite ties.
As Caleb prepared to leave on his mission, he and his brothers decided that they wanted to take a tie that would travel with each one of them while they served their missions. We pulled down a box that held a few of John's ties from his mission, and they chose one and anointed it the "Traveling Tie."
On July 8, 2014, Elder Caleb Aldrich boarded a plane headed to Guatemala City wearing the Traveling Tie. He returned home on June 23, 2016.
When the Stake President came to our home to set Tyler apart as a missionary, he talked about passing the baton of missionary service from one brother to the next. The "Traveling Tie" is our family's baton. On August 23,2016, Elder Tyler Steven Aldrich boarded a plane headed to Mexico City wearing the Travel Tie. He returned home August 7, 2018.
The tradition continues. On August 16, 2021, Elder Ethan Aldrich started the first leg of his missionary journey, to the Nebraska Omaha Mission, wearing the Traveling Tie. When the time comes and Elder Aldrich boards a plane to Chile, the Traveling Tie will go with him.
